Mountain Biking

Our mountain biking camp program emphasizes proper riding techniques, safety awareness, and enjoyment of the wilderness. Also, campers learn about the parts of the bike and safety equipment such as helmets, eye protection, and gloves. Our bike shop houses mountain bikes for all sizes and provides room for campers that wish to bring their own.

Riding begins on the athletic fields where campers work on proper braking, shifting, maneuvering over obstacles, and staying relaxed on the bike. Next, the campers begin to explore the large trail network on camp property using the foundation of skills they have developed. As campers progress further in their skills and excitement for biking, they move off-camp and experience half-day, full-day, and multi-day trips.

We are fortunate to be located in a hotbed of great riding; our mountain biking trips take us to Dupont State Forest, Tsali Recreational Area, Pisgah National Forest, and elsewhere in the Southeast.  From smooth gravel roads to tight, twisting singletrack we have a trail and a trip to match every ability level.

“One of the big things the trips do for the kids is that they open their eyes to the idea that mountain biking isn’t just this ‘high adrenaline, going down the hill’ thing, but that it’s a great way to just go out and be outdoors. We go see waterfalls and other points of interest, this broadens their perspective about mountain biking.”
