Fall in the Mountains

With the official beginning of fall more than a week behind us, High Rocks is welcoming in the change of seasons. While summer will always be our main squeeze, fall brings some attractions of its own. “Leaf peeping” in western North Carolina is a major draw for people from all over the country who want to see the stunning beauty of our mountains bedecked in the full range of autumn colors. The weather is crisply cool and the sky a particular blue only found this time of year making each hike a unique experience to this time of year. The entire area stays busy with festivals, music, arts/crafts shows, and lots of good food to keep everyone coming back year after year.

A little closer to home, fall also means the resumption of our LEAP Outdoor Adventure Program which targets school class groups for multi-day experiences climbing, canoeing, backpacking, rafting, team problem solving, and working through our high ropes course! Each program is tailored to fit a specific school’s goals with the aim of pushing students as individuals and members of a class in order to receive ideas from their peers, work together to solve challenges, and better evaluate the process of group dynamics. LEAP can quickly effect widespread changes in student bodies by allowing them an entirely new vantage point with a fun, intense, shared experience that removes them from the typical classroom setting. If your school might be interested in such a program, please contact Don Gentle for more information. Our new LEAP site will be up in the coming weeks.  We will keep you posted.

Fall heralds the beginning of our travel season for interested new campers looking at the summer of 2013 as well. We will be hitting the road in all directions to introduce ourselves and High Rocks through camp showings at family homes all around the southeast. We will show camp videos, explain the benefits of camp, and personally answer questions for curious families. Great host families and a party atmosphere of returning campers help set young guys at ease as they consider such an exciting adventure. We have some our fall travel dates and locations on our site, please check back or contact us if interested!
