4th of July High Rocks Style

Pictures from July 4th, 2013

The morning started off with the “Star Spangled Banner” Jimmy Hendrix style blasting through camp then followed by other patriotic songs for morning clean up.  There was a lot of energy and even more patriotic wear!   During breakfast there was an impromptu pledge of allegiance and this was all before 9am.

We had a great morning in activities with all kinds of fun patriotic themes.  Canoeing had counselors in red boats, the red coats, that “attacked” the boats on the water by swamping them.  I am not sure who loved it more the campers or the staff.  Each hour had a different battle theme and renewed vigor.   Arts and Crafts helped us with face painting.  It was a great day to be in camp.

You may have noticed that we have had some rain lately as I am sure a lot of you have as well.  I have to say I have never been more impressed with the energy level our campers and staff exhibited this week.  We have gone with an “embrace the rain” philosophy and it has been amazing.  I heard several times today that this was the best 4th of July ever!   We will be happy when the sun comes out again but until then we are going to keep having a blast!

This afternoon for 5:00 choice period we gathered on the activity field for “Patriotic Games” and watermelon.  We set up a couple of slip and slides that were awesome and the campers got to shoot water balloons at counselors with launchers.  Our staff are incredibly good sports if you have not figured that out yet.  It turned out that we did not even need the hose to keep water on the slide, mother nature delivered plenty!

After a wet day of super fun we decided we should let everyone dry off and relax.  We had a movie and popcorn surprise for evening program.  It was a welcome treat!  Ham has outdone himself today I hope that you will enjoy the pictures as much as I have! I feel like it truly captures the excitement and energy of the day.

Happy 4th of July!
