Only Four Days Left?
June 22, 2014 by Don Gentle

What a perfect day! My morning started pretty early with two excited girls about to head off to camp. They were up before 6:30 am. I went out on the deck to see an incredible sunrise with just a slight breeze. It was amazingly quiet. There were a couple of staff on the lake doing morning work-outs, but other than that, it was just the birds. The boys were still in their beds, but my two little girls were ready to practically drive themselves to camp.
Breakfast came soon after followed by our Sunday morning service by the lake. Will took the lead on the service, while Zoob and I made a quick dash to drop off the girls at Illahee. We did our quick visit in the cabin, talked with their counselor, and slid out to let them take over. It was a wonderful drop-off and the girls could not have had more perfect cabin counselors. I am so excited for them!
Enough about my personal camp stories, let’s get back to what is happening at High Rocks. While we did spend most of the morning fairly relaxed the day took off quickly. We had our typical Sunday morning choice events that took us up to lunch. Lunch was fantastic! Perfectly cooked roast beef with wonderful mashed potatoes. The tasty yeast roles with herb butter was a big hit.
Many of the staff were busy during rest hour setting up for our covert OPS afternoon event. Different cabin groups were paired up to take on several sneaky and challenging tasks. It is kind of funny how the last challenge, regardless of the theme, always ends in mud? The mud is still my favorite! I enjoy watching the boys ease in, slightly timid about the whole thing. By the end of it, we have to call time just to get them out! It always makes for great pictures.
We wrapped up the day with a story and campfire. What a great end to an awesome week. We only have four full days of camp left! That’s crazy! I am looking forward to a wonderful week with some more great stories about this incredible group of young men. We will post all the way through to Thursday night. I will be sending out a few reminders about parents’ day later in the week.
One quick note. Zoob has just finished sending out all of the letters from your son’s cabin counselor. If you have not yet received them, please check your spam box and make highrocks.com a safe sender on your email account. The letters all went out to your preferred email address. If you still cannot find them drop us a note.
Have a great night! Enjoy these awesome pictures! They start out with a bunch of Keystone Camp square dance pictures, and then end in MUD!
take care,
Don
