Welcome Two Week Campers

Today’s Pictures

So the journey begins.  Whether it’s his first year or his fifth,  each child that arrived today will be different when you pick him up at camp on closing day. Sure, he will make some new friends and learn some new skills.  Most importantly, however, he will learn how to make some of his own decisions, set his own goals, make his own bed (maybe), and have a blast doing it. No grades, no tests, no homework; just boys choosing a destination and hoping to get there.  It’s going to be an incredible journey. I am so fortunate that you have taken the first step.  I’m am happy to share the details of each and every day, so you can enjoy it with us.  Some may have already noticed that it is going to be a journey for many of you as well.  I can’t wait…  So let’s get to it!

After the the wonderful morning drop-off we jumped (literally for some boys) right into lunch.  Nothing beats chicken fingers for the first lunch of the session.  It’s a tried and true classic that has been going on for years!  Once we finished with lunch the boys stopped by every activity and started thinking about their schedule.

For this session we have 150 campers, and 78 staff members. Most of our staff are returning counselors or former High Rocks campers; 54 of the 78 staff members are returning for the second summer or more! I’ll brag more about our staff later, but you can get a peek at them by visiting our 2014 High Rocks Staff page.

The link at the top (Today’s Pictures) will take you to today’s picture gallery. It is a password protected area, so please enter the password you were given on opening day or what was mailed in the parent guide.  There is no username required, just enter the password. The page should open to a new window that is just a slideshow.  You will notice that our website and picture gallery is very user friendly on most any device, including mobile and tablet devices.  In order to enjoy your viewing experience of the gallery, please take these recommendations:

  • Once you get to the page, scroll down until you see the bottom of the slideshow window.  Click on the last icon on the right, it will allow the slideshow to expand into the whole window. Use this option for desktops and standard laptops.
  • For tablets, phone devices, and other screen enabled devices, tap the middle of the slideshow once to enlarge it.  This will also give you navigation options.  Typical swipe navigation will work as well.
  • The slide show has a self-play option, but you can advance through as fast you wish by using the navigation or swipe options.
  • If you have any problems getting the picture gallery to work, please e-mail me at don@highrocks.com or visit this post I put together to help folks out.

While I did not get to see everyone, it was a pleasure seeing so many new families and a number of returning faces today.  We’re looking forward to a great session. Be sure to visit often to check out pictures as the session progresses. Feel free to add any comments to the daily posts at the bottom if you like.  One quick note, you will probably see a couple of sweet girls running around in some of these pictures over the next couple of weeks.  No, we have not become a coed camp, those are my daughters jumping in and enjoying camp too.  Lucky kids…

Take care,

Don Gentle
