It was another day of firsts. We had our first trips out of camp today. Our canoers enjoyed the day on the Tuckaseegee River. It was a perfect day to warm back up those whitewater skills. They guys had a great trip and are now officially back in action. Our climbers spent the day on Looking Glass Rock in Pisgah National Forest. The guys got a bunch of climbing in today with the beautiful weather. They each got to climb several routes before making the trip back to camp.
Our hikers enjoyed a hike on our property up to Rich Mountain. It was a hike that took the whole morning and the guys returned in time for lunch. We also had the first trip to Woorley’s Cave in Tennessee today for some underground hiking as we like to call it. They guys enjoyed exploring, getting muddy, and squeezing through tight spots while in the cave.
In camp it was another day full of activities. The guys have gotten used to their schedules and have really found the rhythm of a camp. It is fun to watch in between activities as the guys quickly move about camp to get ready for their next adventure. Often if time allows they even fit in a visit to the dining hall for snack. They are pretty impressive in their ability to manage wardrobe changes, gear swaps and get to activities on time. Having activities that they are super excited about probably does not hurt either!
Tonight we have our second round of cabin overnights. They boys from Connestee, Lakeside, Chalet, and Windswept are enjoying pita pizzas, and smore’s by the fire tonight. It is a beautiful clear evening that should provide a great night’s sleep in the shelters on camp property.
You may have noticed a couple of girls in the photos by now- we have not gone co-ed. As luck would have it as directors of a boys summer camp Don and I were blessed with two girls. They have no idea how lucky they are to spend their whole summer at camp!
I hope you are enjoying the pictures so far and that tonight’s batch will provide a great window into the events of the day. It is so fun to see camp full of young boys again. Thank for sharing them with us!
Hope you have a great evening,
Zoob
