Halfway Saturday

It was a perfect morning to say goodbye to our Mini I campers and parents. Everyone was here by 9:30 as we took the whole group of boys and parents around camp to say goodbye to our activities and show some of the parents what we were up to these last two weeks.  As I gave my tour, I mostly enjoyed the boys giving their own first person tour of High Rocks.  As we stopped at each place, I would tell the parents a little bit about what we do in this particular activity.  After I stopped, I could hear all the boys what they did and who was there, how you do it, what was cool, and all that.

This group of “minis” was almost entirely first-time campers. It was a big step to jump into all that we have to offer.  I heard several stories about the boys not wanting to leave and how they would be back next year.  Some even threw out that they would be back for four weeks next year!  It was a great group of boys and parents.

The heat faded away a bit today.  The morning gave way to another sunny day.  It looked like it was going to be another warm one today, but then a solid rain storm came in at the end of lunch.  It was a perfectly timed event for rest hour.  The storm came back around for the second hour, so we extended our rest period a bit.  There were no complaints from our boys. They enjoyed a little bit of relaxation this afternoon and probably some much-needed rest. As the rain left, the temperature came down to a nice 69 degrees up here on the mountain.  It was a welcomed event after several heated days.

All of our horseback riders enjoyed a morning at the Tryon International Equestrian Center for a horse jumping show.  If you have never heard about this place, it is quite a sight to see right here in western North Carolina.  TIEC will be the home of the World Equestrian Games in 2018.  The boys enjoyed a cool hunter jumper event, and then a pizza picnic before heading back to camp this afternoon.

The rest of our activities were going on as planned through the day.  It is hard to believe we are halfway through the session already!  We have a solid two weeks of excitement ahead.  We look forward to another eventful day tomorrow.

All the best,

Don
