Carnival and MUD PIT!!!

I really enjoy Sunday’s at High Rocks. I think the change of pace adds a whole lot to the feel of camp. Even though the wake-up bell is a little later on Sunday, I still woke up pretty early this morning. I knew there would be coffee and maybe even some cinnamon rolls out early in the dining hall, so I grabbed my mug and headed up. Sure enough freshly roasted coffee from our local roaster right here in Brevard, Brown Bean Coffee Roasters AND, some of Nate’s scratch-made rolls. After grabbing a nice warm cup of coffee, I chatted with Nate and his sister, Camille, as I watched them roll out the scratch-made cinnamon rolls we were about to have for breakfast. It was a beautiful sight! I took a moment by the lake to reflect on my own. The cool still air made for a wonderful site with the trees reflecting across the lake and a little fog rolling off too. I read a bit and then took a moment to head to the office.
The wake-up bell rang bringing camp into action. Sunday is also laundry day. Each cabin needs to bring their groups laundry up before breakfast. It is always fun to watch these boys pack up their laundry and attempt to get it up to the dining hall in the morning. Another great opportunity for these boys to learn some more self-reliance.
WE enjoyed some quieter songs down by the lake for our Sunday gathering and then the staff had a dramatic reading of The Lorax. The boys enjoyed the songs and the lesson. It was a great start to the morning.
We quickly headed right into our morning adventure of rainbow tag. The boys need to find different staff hiding around camp and then get marked by their color. The goal is to collect all the colors. The caveat is that there are eraser staff that can remove the collected colors. It ends up being a wonderful event with a lot of running. The best part is the mud pit at the end of the event.
As if the morning fun wasn’t enough, the afternoon soon came to life after rest hour with the Annual High Rocks Carnival! Complete with all sorts of games and fun including a bounce house and a dunk tank. The boys had a blast and so did the staff!
Everyone ran off to shower after the carnival. We then had a great cookout with hot dogs and hamburgers on the lawn. After dinner, we had an all-camp campfire to finish out the day and think about the week ahead. The boys had a hard time believing that there is only five day left of camp. They say time flies when you’re having fun, & we’re certainly having fun!!!
There are a bunch of pictures from today and a few horseback pictures from yesterday as well as some evening activity last night. Don’t forget, if you enjoyed the pictures, you can still buy a high-resolution gallery download subscription and a flash drive to have on closing day. If you would like one, please email Darby tonight or in the morning (office@highrocks.com).
It’s going to be an awesome five days! Stay tuned!
