The Weekend!

It was another delightfully cool morning here at High Rocks!  After a wonderful wake-up we enjoyed a tasty breakfast that started with a number of cereals along with our house-made granola.  The main course included buttermilk biscuits, scrambled eggs, sausage, and sausage gravy.  For the health conscious you could add some Greek yogurt and fresh blueberries, oranges, apples, pink grapefruit, or apple slices.  What a way to start your day!

Our climbers had two half-day “High Rocks” trips up to our 40-foot boulders on the property.  There was still plenty of climbing excitement in camp at our 53-foot tower.  The boys continued to work on skills and even try out the bouldering cave.

Our paddlers had their first trip out on the French Broad River today.  We will continue some more of these trips all next week.

Some of the boys from hiking headed over to DuPont State Forest for some fun around the beautiful waterfalls.  They even had a chance to go under a waterfall!  The rest of the guys at hiking enjoyed learning how to set up tarps including knots, location, and design.

This evening’s age-group activities:

  • Hillside, Connestee, and Lakeside: Cabin Overnights
  • Foxhollow and Holiday: Games on the Activity Field
  • Chalet and Flattop: Games on the Soccer Field
  • Outpost, Sprucepine: Chill Night
  • Halfway and Lookout: Waterslide and Rope Swing

Thanks for checking in this evening and have a great start to your weekend.

See you tomorrow,

Don
