Square Dance Night

The morning started early for most of our horseback riding crew.  They hit an early breakfast and then headed down to the Tryon International Equestrian Center to watch a horse show! TIEC is the venue for the World Equestrian Games this year.  The guys enjoyed watching some jumpers as well as the great location.

It was a beautiful day.  The sailors enjoyed some great breeze, while the sun shoed its face all day long! Over in hiking, the guys participated in “car camping day” complete with a “hillbilly” hot tub, lawn games and some great snacks around the fire!

Mountain biking really enjoyed hitting the trails around camp today.  Each group hit some great trails including our awesome rhododendron tunnel.  It is amazing how fast these boys can learn from some excellent instruction. I have really enjoyed watching their skills progress around camp. Having 16 miles of trails in camp makes for a great location to ride as well.  We have several mountain bike specific trails that really help the boys learn.  While these trails require a lot of upkeep, we still enjoy having them around for the boys!  There is more to come from this bunch of riders in the next week as we continue the progression!

Our choice period was filled with beautification hour!  A specific event just for the upcoming square dance.  Showers and clean clothes are required before dinner! We wrapped up the evening hosting the ladies of Keystone Camp.  The square dance is a time-honored tradition and it fits well with our Appalachian roots here in the mountain.  It is a purposeful event that keeps everyone doing something and feeling maybe slightly awkward all at once. Rather than just host something they can do at home where many folks stand on the sidelines.  The square dance creates a great environment for the boys and girls to have a social engagement together.  Keystone is a fine girls camp just on the other side of Brevard and has been around for more than 100 years!!!  We had a great dance and a great time.  I put some of those pictures up.  We will have a few more tomorrow night.

Have a great night!

Don
