Week Two Begins

Monday’s always start with a bang.  It’s like the beginning of a horse race as all these “trip-eager” boys who were all stuck on our 1000-acre facility all weekend feel like they need to get out and do something.  I know, it sounds awful being “stuck” here!  Anyhow, we tend to have all sorts of boys heading out on trips the second Monday of the session.  Their skills are just starting to build, so it is time to test them out!

We had trips out to the French Broad River for canoeing.  There was a climbing trip to Looking Glass Rock. Mountain biking took off for a quick trip to DuPont this morning as well.  What an incredible place to mountain bike, and it is right in our backyard.

The biggest excitement was a group of our older boys heading out for a three-day trip to High Pisgah.  They will spend three days hiking through Graveyard Fields and Shining Rock Wilderness areas.  They will spend most of their time above 4000 feet and have spectacular views. Don’t count on seeing these boys in feature the next few days.

This evening our first group headed out for their “chill night” in Pisgah.  Each age group will have an opportunity to get chilly at the infamous Sliding Rock.  To make sure they are chilled enough, we will hit another infamous landmark called Dolly’s Dairy Bar for a little post-slide ice cream.  I saw them all return tonight cool and excited! We will get some pictures of the event up tomorrow!

Let me know if there is anything we can do to make sure you feel good about your son’s experience!

All the best,

Don Gentle
