Monopoly Sunday
July 15, 2018 by Don Gentle

Another fantastic Sunday at camp. After a wonderful breakfast, and a little music, several of our staff lead our morning by the lake with a talk about empathy; what it means and how it can help our community. I was impressed to see the boys participate in some of the questions and really seem to understand what she was trying to explain.
We spent the rest of our morning in choice period or just plain relaxation. It was great to see some guys enjoy participating in some of the games that the counselors put together. I even enjoyed seeing our paddling staff go out of their way to help a few boys work through their gates tests that will take them on to kayaking. Of course, the gaga pit was busy, and there were a couple of basketball games going on in the gym. There were even a number groups taking in a round of disc golf that slowly took them all the way to lunch. These four-week boys get it! They love camp, and they know how they want to spend it. There may or may not have been a number of boys watching the end of the soccer game today. It looks like Croatia put up a good fight.
After a substantial rainfall during lunch and rest hour, we enjoyed a really cool game of Camp Monopoly. AS the teams worked their way around the board they were required to work on some tasks that allowed them to purchase the property. We even had cool “Community Chest” events like earning $1000 to sweep the dining hall. As with the usual game of Mononopy, the idea was to earn the most money by the end of the game. Our oldest campers served as financiers for each team, while the youngest guys ran the board. All in all, it was a great game!
We wrapped up with some music and a great story by one of our staff, Mathew Marrero. What a great day! We are looking forward to another full week.
We kick off the day with three different trips heading out the door before the Minis even arrive. There is a three-day climb, a three-day hike, and an early river trip all heading out in the morning early.
We are so looking forward to welcoming in our Mini II guys in the morning. It is going to be another great one! I can’t wait to share the details.
Have a great night!
