Welcome Mini II Campers!

I want to welcome all our Mini II families to our nightly gathering and give you some information about what to expect ahead. Some nights will have more than others, but my hope is to give you a sense of what we did today and maybe (probably) some lessons along the way.  It is so great to have you with us!  We had a blast after you all took off today.

The boys were right into their activities after rest hour and then enjoyed some choice period fun.  Tonight, Hillside and Conestee were in the gym for the evening program while Lakeside and Foxhollow were on the activity field.  The Mini II cabins will stay in these cohorts all week as they rotate around to each of the activities.  Ideally, next week they will head to their chosen activities for the session.

I know there are a lot of first-time families in this mini II group.  It’s going to be an amazing ride.  By design, the boys will have some ups and downs.  Learning new skills will take some practice.  They will have some success and they will be challenged at times.  Our caring staff will get them right back on their feet to try again and help them along the way.

I hope all the mini-parents were able to find their way to our blog.  Click the link that says “Today’s Pictures” for the gallery at the bottom.  It will always be the same link, so just save it for future visits.   You should have received an automated email just after the drop-off this morning about the gallery login. If you have any trouble, drop me a line and I will help you out. Check your spam since this automated email tends to float around out there at times.

I will try my best to get the blog up by 9:30 pm each night, but sometimes camp does get in the way, or our rural internet has been quite slow (or even slower). Don’t fret!  We will get you the pictures as soon as we can! Images are posted late afternoon and again in the evening. Once the blog is up all the pictures should be loaded for the day unless you see a note. Sometimes the terribly slow internet creates an issue.

For our four-week parents still tuning in, there were a number of trips out the door before the Mini guys even arrived. It was 8:30 and paddling had already left for Section 9 of the French Broad. A wonderful section of Class III whitewater. The climbers took off for a day trip to Pisgah. The hikers left for a two-day to the Nantahala National Forest. Even the mountain bikers were rolling over to DuPont as some of the first cars were rolling up the road.

Don’t forget to follow us on social media.  We will make it worth your while by putting up a couple extra pictures and a special video from time to time during the day.  Twitter: @CampHighRocks. Facebook:  Camp High Rocks, and on Instagram: #camphighrocks. Feel free to throw up some of these great pictures to share on your feed.  We like making High Rocks look good!

We are super excited to have our Mini II family here. I will send out an activity schedule tomorrow with a few more details. Please let me know if there is anything we can do to give your camper a fantastic experience.

Have a great night,

-Don Gentle
