Jersday Thursday Again

Life is good on the mountain!  Not only do we enjoy all the wonderful views, cool mornings, a passing shower, and even wonderful sunsets.  Mountain life has many advantages. Especially, life at 3000 feet.  This morning it was a cool 50 degrees.  We got to about 78 degrees today.  Our elevation allows these reasonable temperatures to be around all summer.  Even in the heat of August we still have nights in the mid-sixties. The sun was out almost all day.  The sailors have enjoyed a near-constant breeze almost for several days this session.

It was another busy day here on the Rocks.  Mountain biking, and canoeing, had trips today while rock climbing had both morning and afternoon trips.

You will see a lot of team jerseys out there today.  The staff made it Jersday Thursday. We even created our own High Rocks Jersey as an early signing bonus a a couple of years ago.  It was a big hit!

There are some great images out there today. I really enjoy when the photographer climbs to the top of the tower to catch the boys climbing and on the ropes course.

Today's Lesson

Life at High Rocks is about being present in the moment and living. Without the distractions from electronics, politics, and the stresses we put upon our daily routine, you can get down to living.  I really enjoy watching it all happen around me.  We are into the “meat” of the session now. While I don’t want to be the one to shock you, it’s not always easy.  For some boys, just being here is a huge step.  For others, it may be going off the rope swing for the first time or getting to the top of the tower.  I tell these boys time and time again to “embrace the discomfort.” That is where life is happening. The sweet spot is right at the edge of the discomfort where you feel a little uneasy, but not gripped with fear. If you don’t learn to handle the discomfort, it will all become gripping fear.  Anyhow, what I am trying to say is I enjoy watching these boys face some fears, work through some frustration, and have some success. Our staff are very much in tune with the process and are there to help along the way. Check out the successes in the pictures today. Sometimes the view alone is worth it…

Reaching New Heights

Making it 50 feet to the top of the tower is no small feat.  It sure is cool to see these guys work hard every day.

Age Groups Evening Program

Age group four (Chalet and Overlook) made their trip down to the forest for Chill Night.

Foxhollow II headed out for their cabin overnight

Age Groups 1-3 all hit the gym for some practice for this weekends square dance.  The staff made it fun with a bunch of line dances to learn and the guys enjoyed it.  It will be a whole different event on Saturday night with the Keystone girls.

Age Group 5 had part two of their golf outing across the street, while the guys that went last night were able to chill with their cabin mates for the evening.

Tomorrow we head into another weekend! The adventure continues…

Have a great night. We sure are!
