We Love Mondays

I sure had a wonderful Monday.  I was able to lead a boy of mountain bikers this morning.  I really like taking moments like that where a guy my age gets to show these boys he still has a little steam left in the engine.  We headed over to Dupont State Forest.  We are so lucky to have that forest just minutes away from camp.  The 10,000+ acres of trails is quite wonderful.  Again, the boys did great and were all wishing for more by the end of the trip.

I was so nice out today!  I know many of you are suffering and it did make it all the way to the mid 80s today.  The breeze made it pleasant, however.  It’s a wonderful place to be right now.

If you do not see your son, it is likely he is out on a trip today.  We had several trips out the door this morning.  The paddling crew headed out to the Chattooga River down in South Carolina. The Chattooga is a wonderful river with a Wild and Scenic designation.  Among other things it means that ¼ mile on either side of the river is undeveloped, preserving the water clarity and the wilderness experience.

This really is a great time in the session to see the rewards the boys have gained in their activities.  I am really impressed with the skills these boys have picked up. Down at paddling, for example. Paddling a canoe is no small feat.  Not only do you have to figure out how all this paddle, boat, and buoyancy work together, but you also need to learn to communicate and work with another person!  It is truly an art and science wrapped into one.  I enjoy watching these guys put it all together and look good doing it!

The Norming

It’s here! We have finally made it.  It’s not a perfect senarios, and a lot will flex in different directions, but the boys do seem to be working well in their cabin groups. I noticed in the laundry process yesterday that there was a lot less problems involved in getting the group to work together on these sort of tasks.  Even the little guys down in Connestee we figuring out cabin clean-up this morning.  That place has not look that good all session! I’m not calling them out, I am celebrating their success.

Making the Jump

It sure was fun to see the Foxhollow boys making their way up on the High Challenge Course today!  It sure is a great way to wrap up the session.

Age Groups Evening Program

Age group 1 (Hillside, Connestee, Lakeside, Foxhollow I): These guys all headed out for their Chill Night. A perfect way to cool off and “chill” this evening.

Age Group 2 (Flattop, Windswept): Headed down to the activity field for some romping around in the grass.

Age Group 3 (Outpost, Sprucepine): Tennis Courts

Age Group 4 (Chalet, Overlook):  Dodgeball in the Gym.

Age Group 5 (Pinnacle, Halfway, Lookout): Canoe Fill-UPs! Another great way to spend the evening.  Put four dudes in a boat with a couple of buckets and they each try to sink the other boats.

The sunshine continues again tomorrow!  Have a great night!
