High Rocks Alumni Spotlight: Burke Ingraffia

Our Alumni Spotlight series is back! We’re excited to highlight our alumni through the years.

We are thrilled to introduce you to Burke Ingraffia, a longtime High Rocks camper and counselor. Burke was a camper from 1978 to 1982 and a counselor from 1988 to 1991 as well as another year later on. His mother was also a counselor in the early days of High Rocks. Burke now works as both a Software Developer and a Songwriter in Richmond, VA. Now let’s hear some of his reflections and memories from his time at camp.

What do you miss most about camp?

I miss the horseback trail rides and the old friends probably the most.

What is one of your favorite Camp High Rocks memories?

Sitting together on top of Campfire Hill among the horses and watching the sunset.

What advice would you give an incoming staff or camper?

Do your best to enjoy the NOW and to savor every moment.

How has your time at Camp High Rocks impacted choices you have made in your life?

I learned the importance of working together with friends and building community.

What are one or two of your proudest moments post camp that your time at High Rocks played a role in?

I wrote a song about my High Rocks memories titled “Cedar Mountain.”

How did camp make you be brave?

In so many ways. Little things like getting the confidence to pick up a horse’s hoof to clean it.

Anything else to share?
