The first morning of the June Session. It’s SO quiet before the bell rings. I enjoyed a little coffee while my golden “Biscuit” and I hung out on the back deck of the camp house. It’s a delightful way to start the day as the sun rises over the lake. There are always a couple of folks around and a distant rattle from the kitchen as they get ready for the day.
After about 20 minutes the memorable event that I had been waiting for all year began. The wake-up bell started ringing and our kitchen crew belted out a solid “GOOD MORNING HIGH ROCKS.” I was so excited. Immediately, the noise and rustle of the day had begun.
It already seemed like old hat at the dining hall this morning at breakfast. The boys were right into the process and were ready to eat. The hot bar today included scrambled eggs, scratch-made blueberry muffins, sausage, and oatmeal. The fruit bar had sliced apples, blueberries, strawberries, and melon.
After breakfast, it was time to get our bodies moving down at assembly. It is such a fun tradition for the boys and something they really enjoy. Then we were off to activities!
Our first day of camp is so exciting. While we need to cover a bit of material and safety stuff, I like to make sure the boys are actually moving around and doing stuff in their activities. I heard it once called “time to fun.” How much time until we have fun? Focus on getting to the fun, no lines, not too much talking about it, but getting into the fun! It was great to see the fun out their today.
Getting out there and having a blast at Camp High Rocks as soon as we can! that is what today was about!
Some of us hit headed out in to th ewilderness while others stayed in camp and had a blast.
While our upper seniors(Pinnacle, Halfway, and Lookout) had their own overnight adventure, age group 4 (Outpost and Sprucepine) headed out to one of our open-air shelters for the night to enjoy the traditional pita pizzas, s’mores, and games around the campfire. I can’t wait to see them in the morning on their way back into main camp. Always a sight!
Age group 1 (Hillside and Connestee) had some dodgeball in the gym.
Age Group 2 (Lakeside and Foxhollow) enjoyed some games on the tennis courts.
I enjoyed a little time with age group 3 (Chalet, Overlook, and Windswept) on the rope swing! I love the new rope swing. The guys were even impressed I came down to swing. The new setup is quite exhilarating. You start about 12-14 feet above the water and then get hurled out about 50 yards into the lake. It is so much fun!
And to think we just got here!!!
Have a great night!
