Today began in the same gorgeous fashion as our other mornings this week. A cool breeze was coming across the lake and blowing through the cabins to make those covers feel extra good just before the wakeup bell.
As it tolled out, it actually did it’s intended job this morning and awoke some of our guys as the week’s demands begin to encourage sleeping into the bell. With minimal yawns, the excitement of the day began to build with beds being (somewhat) expertly tucked in, cabins sorted and cleaned, then up to breakfast came the crew.
Chocolate croissants, eggs, breakfast potatoes, sausages, fruits, yogurts, and cereals. It was an excellent way to launch the action part of the day.
For our young Lakesiders, the mornings began on the high ropes course with all of the attendant excitements and noise once would expect from such a venture. It is a very positive group of campers who were doing a wonderful job encouraging each other to push through some nerves or even go hands free while moving across an element fifty feet above the ground.
While our youngsters were on high, the other two cabins were working through a selection of activities. Horseback riding was on offer for both and many campers opted in to riding. A few felt like helping the barn out in other ways was more the move and were painting mounting blocks and elements for the instructional rings while happily chatting away.
Canoeing and swimming both were happening down on the waterfront, with just about every guy taking advantage of a warm day to thoroughly soak themselves. It did not seem to matter a whole lot if it was in canoeing or swimming as our boats proved quite easily jumped out of before figuring out a deep water entry to get back in. Lots of fun and teamwork to make that happen.
The drier parts of the day were spent hiking trails on our property and climbing on our tower. Already, some guys are beginning to impress themselves with their increased comfort on the tower and how much higher they are able to climb on this second round of the activity. It is a wonderful opportunity to see a spark lit for a camper when he encounters something new or a bit scary, and then begins to come to grips with those nerves as they turn into enjoyment. It is one of the many reasons this job is so much fun!

Cabin Night!!
Tonight our cabin groups spent some time filling water bottles, getting flashlights ready, and packing up some dinner makings before heading to three different shelter locations on our property.
The mission; have a blast in the woods while making pita pizzas, s’mores over a campfire, and playing a host of games as the sun sets before heading back into camp to crash in the cabins.
At the time of writing this, camp itself is very quiet as the noise and energy is out in the woods. I look forward to the adventures and stories relayed over breakfast tomorrow before another full day of camp fun!
