Another Theme Day at Camp High Rocks! It was so fun to see all the jerseys today. I really enjoyed asking the guys about their teams and why they chose that particular jersey. It sparked some fun conversations.
We had all sorts of fun trips out of camp today including mountain biking, paddling, and climbing. I put a few shots form one of yesterday’ paddling trips up.
It’s fun to see these guys get into the groove and really start picking up some skills and enjoy what we have to offer
I know many of the parents are wondering how everyone is doing, and I hope the nightly blog and pictures give you a good sense of the daily routine of camp. In the next day or so the first letters from High Rocks will be arriving in your mailbox. There is the possibility of a letter coming home that may worry you. So, let’s talk about homesickness. And just to be clear, I am not bringing this up because I have any concerns, it’s just that time during the session when you might see these letters. It’s not a scary word. It’s all about growing up one step at a time. After over 30 years here at High Rocks, I have some pretty good experience with kids and camp. That being said, a little homesickness is normal. More often than not, what you are reading in those letters today has passed. They are on to bigger heights. Remember, we are professionals. If you feel worried at all just drop us a line. Don’t forget to do the same for your son. Give him some encouraging words; tell him how proud you are and how he will be just fine. Try not to go on about how the dog misses him, or all the cool things you are doing at home. When you are learning to take some steps on your own, sometimes you fall down and get back up. It’s definitely not a reason to stop walking. Camp is a super place to step out on your own. If you do feel like you need to give us a call, we are here to help. Don’t forget, the boys love mail. If you have not sent anything, emails are certainly a quick turnaround. Send often.
Every cabin oldest to youngest get the opportunity to do the challenge course. We have 22 elements and a zipline finish that even the oldest boys still want to do each year!
Tonight’s Events
Age group 1 (Hillside, Connestee, Lakeside): Lakside was on their overnights while Hillside and Connestee hit the activity field for some fun games.
Age Group 2 (Flattop, Windswept): Cabin Overnights
Age Group 3 (Outpost, Sprucepine): Waterslide
Age Group 4 (Chalet, Overlook): Canoe Fill-Ups. Put four dudes in a boat with some buckets and see if you can sink the other boats!
Age Group 5 (Pinnacle, Halfway, Lookout): In the gym for some dodgeball.
As many of you have noticed, the picture tagging is under way. It has turned out to be fairly straight forward. Benjamin is usually pushing up the previous day’s pictures with the name tagging by late morning. And while we do charge for the service, it is a good deal and helps you out as well. I hope you are enjoying the assistance. I find the easiest way is to click on the album of the days and then choose “Discover” and then search the name.
Tomorrow, is going to be another fun day out there. We have trips heading out in mountain biking, paddling, hiking, and climbing.
Have a great night!
