All Style No Speed

If that doesn’t sum up summer camp at High Rocks, I’m not sure what does. I heard this phrase most of the day as the hikers were “underwater hiking” today.  As I walked around camp, it is exactly what I saw.  These boys were all about style.  It couldn’t be described any other way.  The style the pottery studio has been rolling with is incredible. The boys have been had learning on the wheel, hand building, and enjoying the slow, deliberate nature that art requires at times.  My typical ADD boisterous self had to be reminded of the “chill” in the studio when I came down.  I totally get it.

Underwater hiking is a fairly hilarious event.  It really has nothing to do with hiking or swimming.  Much like you might see in a 90’s aqua jogging class.  The boys try their best to stay vertical and “walk” underwater around the lake.  It adds to an already busy time where fishing, sailing SUP boards, paddling, and swimming are already happening.  The vibe came through for all of us today.  All style, now speed. Say the each time you scroll through today’s images.  You’ll get there too.

Teeter Totter Style

Just watching these guys was so much fun.  It’s all about the right speed. Not too fast and not too slow.  you need spped to hit the steep slope at the start but not so much that you just launch yourself. If you go to slow, you stall… It’s the perfect tool to teach balance, approach, and grit.

Crate Stacking Style

Crate stacking at the climbing tower is another super-fun event.  The boys (while on belay) try to stack as many milk crates as they can (one at a time) under themself without tipping over.  The tricky part is that you have to use the hand hold in the crate for your feet in order to add another. One by one, you keep adding. Eventually, the walls come tumbling down, and the next guy gets to have a crack at it.  Lots of cheering and excitement as the boys would get to ten, twelve, or even sixteen crates before they toppled. It was a ton of fun and it takes a lot of style.

Saturday's are the Best

I had to spend the majority of my day out and around camp. Our typical photographer has Saturday off, so I had the opportunity to grab a bunch of images, hang with the boys, and see a lot of what everyone was up to in their activities.
