Wonderful Wednesday

It was another warm sunny day here at High Rocks. Trips were a little lighter today with mountain biking having two trips out and then the climbers also had a trip out.  Hikers and paddlers were in camp today.

The big event of the day, was our senior rafting trip.  All of age group four headed out after an early lunch to have some fun on a big section of the French Broad River today.  The boys wrap up the trip around 5pm and then travel up to the Blue Ridge Parkway where they meet up with a special forces team who has set up dinner for them!  It is so much fun for these guys to do this trip. They rolled back into camp around 9pm tonight.

Today's Lesson

My High Rocks moment of the day is our cabin meeting.  Each night the boys wrap up the day with a meeting in the cabin.  It’s not typically a very long meeting, but it is a time to think about the day and talk about what is on your mind as well as thoughts about tomorrow.  Some counselors have a set plan where they talk about highs and lows, or things they are looking forward to in the future.  The counselor can also use this time to talk about how things are going in the cabin and even bring up topics that the group needs to address.  This is a very important part of creating our community here at High Rocks. It’s also what keeps the roof on the building after living with five to six other guys in a very tight space for two or four weeks.

The Zipline!

The Mini Guys of Foxhollow was on the ropes course today.  Sure looks like they had a blast!

Age Groups Evening Program

Age Group 1 (Hillside and Connestee) and Age Group 2 (Foxhollow and Lakeside): Spent the evening with some Bingo excitement.  Fun games, prizes, and all sorts of commentary.

Age Group III (Chalet and Windswept) and Age Group IV (Flattop and Overlook): Did square dance and line dance practice in the gym for Saturday night.

Age Group V (Outpost and Sprucepine): Still out from the rafting event for the afternoon.

Age Group VI (Pinnacle, Lookout, and Halfway): Our oldest age-group of Upper Seniors split up for evening program.  Lookout I, Halfway II, and Pinnacle headed down with me to play a few holes at the local par 3 golf course across the street.  We had the whole course to ourselves.  The rest of the guys will go out tomorrow night.  A big thanks to Brian and Sherwood Forest Golf Course.  The most delightful 18-hole par 3 course in the mountains. Give it a try sometime.

Thanks for Tuning In!  Have a great night!
