Family Camp FAQ's

We know you might have lots of questions as you consider joining us and plan for your Family Camp weekend. Below, you’ll find answers to our most frequently asked questions to help you feel prepared, relaxed, and ready for a fun-filled getaway with your family.

Camp High Rocks is located in Brevard, North Carolina, less than an hour from both Asheville, NC, and Greenville, SC. Nestled between DuPont State Recreational Forest and Pisgah National Forest, our 1,000-acre property is perfectly suited for camp life, with over 15 miles of private trails for hiking and exploring. See our facilities here.

We may be a little biased, but the weather in the Blue Ridge Mountains is second to none. It is ideal for summer activities with cooler nights and refreshing days, your family can comfortably play outside all day long. Our program is designed to blend excitement and relaxation, giving your family the chance to connect, explore, and recharge together. Choosing High Rocks means choosing an experience that’s been intentionally built around you and your family.

Family Camp is designed for families of all ages.  Everyone is welcome, including babies and grandparents! Families can be current Camp High Rocks families, alumni, or completely new to camp. When planning your visit, bring family members you are comfortable sharing a cabin with. Some activities do have height and weight requirements, so certain options may be limited for safety.

For younger campers, our Kids Club is available for children 5 years and older. Kids Club takes place a few times over the weekend, giving your children a chance to enjoy supervised activities while adults can take some time for themselves.

Food is a big part of a great camp experience, and we want to make sure your whole family enjoys plenty of delicious meals while you’re here. At Family Camp, all meals are served buffet-style in our dining hall. If you ask around, you will hear firsthand how good the food at High Rocks really is.

We provide meals from Friday dinner through Monday lunch, including evening happy hours. At breakfast, you may see options like eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, or pancakes. For lunch, we might have taco day or Greek day, including homemade tzatziki and falafel, and chicken pita wraps. Dinner could include items like pork tenderloin or a cookout with burgers and hotdogs. The menu changes each year, however it will always be delicious!

We put a lot of care into planning menus, testing recipes, and selecting fresh ingredients that promote healthy choices and satisfy hungry adventurers. We also know that mealtime with young kids can sometimes be tricky, so we will have a kid-friendly option at dinner, including mac and cheese, chicken fingers, or grilled cheese, alongside the main menu.

Camp can accommodate most basic allergies and preferences including gluten-free, nut-free, vegetarian, and vegan. You will have the opportunity to let us know your dietary preferences and allergies when you fill out our registration form. We’ve put together a helpful Family Camp Packing List, which you can find here.

In general, plan to pack comfortable, casual clothes. Days are active and spent outdoors, so bring layers for cool mountain mornings and evenings, along with sturdy shoes for walking or hiking. Don’t forget swimsuits, rain gear, and anything that helps your family feel at home for the weekend.

Family Camp will have staff on property that are trained in basic first aid and CPR, so minor bumps and scrapes can be addressed on site. For anything more serious, we are just 25 minutes from a nearby Pardee Urgent Care and Transylvania Regional Hospital, ensuring access to professional medical care if needed.

Yes, we do have Wi-Fi in a few key areas around camp, including the dining hall. Cell Service is limited across the property, Verizon works best. Upon arrival, we are happy to help you find the best spots for connection if needed.

While the weekend is not officially “unplugged,” many families choose to put away their devices and spend time playing together outdoors. We encourage you to do the same, while understanding that you may need to check in on things at home during your stay.

While we love furry friends, please leave your pets at home for the weekend.

Check-in begins on Friday at 3:00 pm and runs until 6:00 pm, with dinner served at 6:30 pm. If you need to arrive later than 6:00 pm, no problem. Please just let us know ahead of time so we can plan for your arrival. You can see a sample of our daily schedule by clicking here and scrolling down to “Sample Daily Schedule”.

Check-out will be on Monday after lunch. We will offer a morning of activities and wrap up after a lunch at 12:00pm.

I grew up attending camp and wanted my husband and boys to get to experience the magic of a NC mountain camp. We also wanted to check out High Rocks to see if our boys would want to attend – and now they are! It was also such a fun opportunity for our family to have a fun weekend doing something different together. We had a blast and will definitely be back!
