Fantastic Friday

This morning was a gorgeous start to our first Friday of the session. While it is hard to believe that we are already heading into the weekend, the week has flown by in a way that only camp can do.

Today promised that same bustling activity with our youngest cabin overnighters returning in the early morning hours, clearly feeling like they had conquered the experience and excited about a big, hot breakfast. They were happy to be greeted with chocolate croissants, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, sausages, fruits, and cereals.

As we were wrapping up the meal, the morning trips were already heading out to their various destinations. Our canoers headed over to the Tuckaseegee river for a day working through some technical rapids, practicing their ferries, and enjoying a day on the water. Other groups on the same section of water offer an increased challenge of moving obstacles for the guys, and also teaches the river etiquette practiced on all of our river runs.

Our climbers took two groups to the High Rocks for half-day experiences of climbing on actual rock, typically a camper’s first time doing so in a session. Not only are they quite close to camp, but they offer a startling degree of difficulty if campers are looking to push themselves!

Our mountaineers headed out of camp for a full day spent up in high Pisgah, hiking over Black Balsam with the huge views of the Blue Ridge spread out before them. They had a great time, enjoyed super sunny skies, and came back ready to have a relaxing evening after such a big day.

In camp, activities were bustling with campers in their rhythm working on progression skills and having fun. Hikers were enjoying classes on stream ecology where they assessed the health of a stream on camp property by collecting specimens of macro-invertebrates. Basically, the more critters found, the healthier the water source. Lucky for us, they found plenty! One young man managed to catch three crayfish and three salamanders by himself, which apparently caused quite the stir amongst our camper seekers.

Our bikers were working on Challenge Hill and speed runs of a mountain bike specific trail called Shrimper’s Delight. Basically, they were seeing how fast they could descend the run while remaining under control, before then testing themselves on a steep hill climb that stumps most of our riders for quite some time.

Other activities were running in a similar vein all across camp and we are heading into the weekend full steam.

Lake Days are Great

The sun was out and the day was warm, so the lake sure was a popular place to be. Our sailors were practicing righting capsized boats and our canoers/kayakers were working hard while enjoying the chance to quickly cool off.

Age Groups Evening Program

Tonight, all the heat and energy of the day turned into an evening thunderstorm that had age groups playing dodgeball, cards, and boardgames before enjoying soft pretzels for snack. It was a nice cool finish to a hot summer day, and now our guys are sleeping hard!

We are looking forward to a busy Saturday tomorrow, and we look forward to seeing you back here tomorrow evening. Have a great night!
