Rest, Refletion, Redirect

Sunday started out with an opportunity to sleep in a bit for tired campers and staff.  We changed things up a bit this morning and did not ring a wakeup bell but rather allowed campers and staff to filter up to the dining hall as they woke up.  We had some classic Looney Tunes playing in the dining hall for the early risers.   It was the beginning of what has become a very chill Sunday.  This group of Four Week campers has been pushing hard for two weeks now and seemed to enjoy a bit slower pace today.

After breakfast everyone headed down to the lakeside for some more reflective songs, and I shared the story of the Stone Cutter.  This story provides a great reminder to focus on valuing who you already are rather than always thinking the grass is greener somewhere else.

As we wrapped up the morning lakeside gathering we had activity counselors recognize campers for their achievements working through our new progression levels.  It is quite evident that these campers have been very busy over the past two weeks!  The levels system is providing a way to recognize all that the camper are learning in their activities and helps them develop goals for their time at camp.  It has been fun to see the campers embrace this new addition to the program.

The rest of the morning allowed the campers to enjoy an extended choice activities until lunch.  We had camper counselor matches being played on the tennis courts along with a bunch of activity on the lakefront.  Disc Golf is always a popular way to spend free time as well.  I think most of all the campers enjoy knowing that they are in charge of what they would like to do during this time.

This afternoon we had planned to have a field day with Camp Illahee but were unable to get together due to thunderstorms this afternoon.  It was, of course, a bummer but the boys pivoted well and we continued our chill theme with a movie and popcorn in the dining hall.  This evening, had enough of a break in the weather to enjoy outdoor cookout with hamburgers and hotdogs before we head up to campfire hill for songs and a story.

I think that we have all recharged our batteries this weekend and will be ready to embrace all of the excitement this week provides!

Anoter Re-Direct

We had another re-direct this week.  Don, took a spill and severed his quadrecept tendon above the knee.  I know, Ouch! Not a planned event.  The whole thing went down on Tuesday night. Some local connections allowed us to get hime to a Ortho by Wednesday and surgery completed before the weekend.  Don will have a little different role these next few weeks.  I think we have him sorted with a golf cart to get around and plenty of support.  No jump squats in assembly for a while…  Don is taking it all in stride…

Only Two Weeks To Go!

We have an action packed couple of weeks ahead for these boys.  Lots of trips and excitiement heading out the door tomorrow morning. We also have a new group of Mini Campers coming in on Monday!  We are excited to have this group of guys and the four weekers are pumped to show them all what makes High Rocks so Awesome!!!

I sure do enjoy doing this everyday. I know you will agree, I can’t help but say that summer camp at High Rocks is a big part of the life skills these boys are learning for the future. Thanks again for sharing them with us.
