It sure was a wonderful mountain day. It was 65 degrees this morning! It warmed up nicely while the constant breeze kept everything just right. We are in for a lovely late summer cool down the next few days as the lows hit the upper 60s and the highs in the mid 70s.
After breakfast, morning assembly was the next big event of the day. The ever-important motion song is a key part of our day. Assembly serves several purposes, but mostly it’s about getting our bodies and minds ready for the day. After a few hilarious stretches lead by some of the staff, our assembly today included several motion songs as well as some other sing-alongs. We then talked a little bit about cabin clean-up as our age group inspectors give the boys some feedback about their morning duties. Max then leads us in our daily ESPN Sports Report to keep the boys up to date on all the sports happenings. Finally, it is the BOE (Best of Everything) Board. The daily board of special events, birthdays, silly questions, and even a motto to live by for the day. Then it is off to activities!
The boys played hard as the cool morning warmed up to somewhat hot. Not quite, but if you were active, it was hotter than you like. Nobody was complaining, it just meant the lake felt even better. The pictures tell it all! You should see several Hawaiian-themed shirts out there today in honor of Waikiki Wednesday!
It was another fantastic day at High Rocks! It was so great to see these boys in their activities today. They are so excited. I really enjoyed watching these guys making it to their activities all on their own. Not always prompt but definitely excited. It’s a lot for a little guy moving from canoeing all the way to horseback riding. They still make it!
One of my favorite parts of my job is introducing camp to new interested families, and I tend to be the point guy when it comes to camp tours. Mostly, I just like talking about our process and our purpose in everything we do. The summer is THE BEST time to see camp. You get to see camp in action with boys enjoying the High Rocks adventure. If you have friends thinking about camp, be sure to send them while the boys are here. If you really want to know what a camp is all about, just ask the kids that come here.

One of the special events for the boys this session is a chance for each cabin to do a rotation on the High Ropes Challenge course. The boys spend an entire morning or afternoon enjoying the obstacles and excitement of the aerial adventure with their cabinmates. At heights of 25 and 45 feet and over 13 elements, it creates a fun challenge for the boys year after year. It’s always a good time. They will pick up where they left off in their activities either that afternoon or the next day.
Chill Night Begins!
Age Group VI headed out for their “Chill Night” at Sliding Rock. The Chill Night adventure will continue down the age group chain, so that all of the boys will get to head into Pisgah’s own natural Sliding Rock (chilly part 1), then head over to the infamous Dolly’s where they can choose from a number of special “Camp” flavors. These are special flavors from area camps that are only available at Dolly’s (chilly part 2). And, of course, they get to hang out (chill part 3) with their age group and cabin buddies all night. They rolled back into camp around 8:45 pm just in time to head back to the cabin and get ready for another big day at High Rocks! …and they looked pretty chill.

Age Group III (Flattop, Chalet, and Windswept): Cabin Overnights!
Age Group IV (Outpost and Sprucepine): Cabin Overnights!
Age Group V (Overlook and Lookout): Waterslide and Rope Swing!
Age Group VI (Pinnacle and Halfway): Chill Night!
And to think it is only our second full day of camp! There is so much more to come! It sure is fun having your son here!
