Pottery
While learning a variety of techniques for both molding and finishing clay is the instructional focus of the pottery program at High Rocks, the overall program goal is to give the boys the satisfaction of exercising their own creativity.
Class time in pottery is devoted to working on projects designed by the head of the program that allows campers to take ownership and creative license of their creations. Even for campers who consider themselves less than artistically inclined, pottery camp activities offer an imaginative outlet and a great compliment to activities that are more physically oriented.
Following through with an idea from inspiration to a fired, finished work of clay augments planning, problem-solving, and fine motor skills. Best of all, however, is the joy that the campers glean from making something with their own hands that they can be proud of. New pieces for the family art collection are a great benefit as well!
High Rocks is much more than a pottery camp, rock climbing camp or mountain biking camp. High Rocks is a traditional summer camp with an extensive array of activities, including pottery.
