Meals at Camp
Food is crucial to a great camp experience and can be a prime concern for parents and campers alike. One way to keep campers energized and happy is having a quality food service operation. If you ask around, you will hear firsthand how good our food is here at High Rocks. These boys are so busy at camp, we want to make sure they have lots of options to choose from so that they get the nutrition they need. We spend a great deal of time planning all the menus, testing and selecting the best food choices, and making items available that promote healthy choices.
- Our food service is run by us. We do not farm out to an outside group. We hire our own chef and kitchen staff.
- We get most of our produce from a local market just down the road, not off a food service truck.
- Our menus appeal to many needs including those with special dietary restrictions.
Typically at breakfast, there are several choices of cereal and fruit along with other hot items that vary from day to day. Lunch and dinner typically have a salad bar with lots of choices in addition to hot items. We also ask the boys to take a vegetable (at least a little) of some sort at lunch and dinner.
We want to challenge the campers to think about and take responsibility for their actions. Again, it’s more encouragement to work on a clean tray and eat what you selected. We want the boys to try to do their best. The guys can go back for as many servings as they like, but we them to eat what is on their tray first since they control what they take.
